USING DIGITAL STRATEGIES TO INCULCATE TECHNICAL REPORT WRITING SKILLS IN SELECTED NIGERIAN POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS

Abstract
Technical Report Writing Skills are important aspects of English for Academic purposes across the globe. New technologies are now employed in the pedagogy of Language in technological institutions to meet the dynamics in learning. This paper examines the employment of digital strategies in inculcating report writing skills in students from two Polytechnics in South West Nigeria. Digital field trips, pod-cast and Apps are employed in Language Classes. The aim was to measure the significant influence in the motivation of the learners. 158 Students from two Polytechnics are randomly selected for the study. An instrument, a questionnaire was designed to measure the attitude and motivation of the respondents before and after the study. Non parametric statistics of simple percentage was used to measure the reactions of the respondents. The results showed that the learners were enthusiastic on the use of digital strategies in the Language classroom. Majority of the respondents attested to the fact that the method had positive impact on their specific disciplines. The study recommends that the strategies should be intensified in Second Language learning classroom to increase the motivation of learners in report writing skills. Because the strategies encourage the learner to write report with greater skills, the instructors should use them the more.
